Tim Riggenbach got 1,556 votes, and Beth Akeson received 1,543 votes according to the unofficial results published by the City’s Election Commission. Voter turnout was 22.93% overall, 23.61% in the third district. No word on whether Akeson will demand a recount.
Thank goodness.
and the museum passes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
close race…two good candidates — really the district couldn’t go wrong I don’t think.
is there any provision for automatic recount on that close a vote?
Recount… PLEASE.
Recount
I think it is automatically recounted, or at least certain number precints. Won’t matter tho unless there was a problem with the early voting count. Obviously two good candidates-hope they can work together with Manning and the Third will have three good representatives.
I am proud to have been a part of this historic election… but I am sad. 13 people were the difference in the election. I have 3 points for the people of the third district. 1.) Make sure you tell your friends that this election is a great example that every vote matters. 2.) Make sure that you have elected the right official… I know that there are some instances in the past where these electronic machines have been off. 3.) What does this say about our mayor… our current 3rd District City Councilman…. Or our U.S. Congress House of Representatives Rep. Aaron Schock??? All three of these men endorsed Tim Riggenbach and he tied Mrs. Akeson. Only half of the people of the third district agreed with these three men? I don’t understand how this could be….
The people that did not vote for this ballot contest (77.05%)are the ones who determined the race outcome.
Those who came to the voting booth on an off year are the dedicated ones and will always vote in this race every time it is held.
All the endorsements that could have been mustered would not have gotten the 77% to come to the polls.
It is pretty amazing that we call a 11% favorable vote a democratic victory… on our ballot in West Peoria, I think there was only one race being contested… all of the others were solitary candidates…
Pitiful… simply pitiful.
So where is all that “Proud to be an America” crap? So proud, you can’t even bother to be informed and vote?
Well, Cuddles, I would say their endorsements hads a lot to do with the people brave enough to come out and vote.
I demand a recount. Considering Riggenbach’s slavish devotion to the Museum and the underhanded forces that want it built at any cost….
So is Akeson going to run for At-Large in 2 years?
Akeson could run for a county board seat
Victory is determined by who shows up and who has the most votes of all cast votes.
“Akeson could run for a county board seat”
I think there is going to be a vacancy.
Thanks to all who supported me and words of encouragement.
My district’s (district 9)county board seat is not vacant, it is held by representative Mike Phelan and thank goodness he had the good sense not to vote in favor of expanding the toxic waste landfill. Thank you Mike!
The absentee/provisional ballots could become a factor. It’s not time yet for anyone to celebrate.
Was that a dig at Riggenbach? Your entitled to your opinion, but isn’t that a little petty?
I think you mean hazardous waste landfill
Isn’t toxic waste hazardous?
Sud O. Nym-
Just curious, do you support the hazardous/ toxic waste landfill expansion?
Maybe kcdad but is all hazardous waste toxic?
haz·ard·ous
1 : depending on hazard or chance 2 : involving or exposing one to risk (as of loss or harm)
tox·ic
1 : containing or being poisonous material especially when capable of causing death or serious debilitation 2 : exhibiting symptoms of infection or toxicosis 3 : extremely harsh, malicious, or harmful
I don’t know… what do you think?
i think the bigger question is Why did Tim Riggenbach support it?
Speaking of big questions, is Riggenbach really on record claiming that a Rainforest Cafe and an ESPN Zone would rejuvenate downtown? If his inspiration for thoughtful, creative urban planning is to emulate two of the blandest and charmless tourist traps mocked by Chicagoans, the City Council is in worse shape than it already was. Too embarrassing for words.
sorry, “most charmless”
Rayman, on the surface, I was against the hazardous waste expansion. But I’ll be honest that I didn’t investigate past the visceral level. But that wasn’t my point. I wasn’t implying that Riggenbach was right (or wrong) in that vote. I found it odd that Beth took a swipe at him out of the blue. Someone asked if Beth would be running for his County seat. She responded that she doesn’t live in the district with the vacancy, and that her rep was Phelan. Then she pointed out that he voted against the expansion, which really wasn’t on point. To me, it sounded petty.
This is a comment towards serenity. Are thank ful that the political race is over or are you glad that Riggenbach won?
