State of the City Address preview

This year’s State of the City address will be at the Holiday Inn City Centre, 11:45 a.m., January 26. The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce has published a video preview of the event:

Notable this year: It won’t only be the state of the city, but also the state of District 150. Interim superintendent Norm Durflinger will be presenting along with Mayor Ardis. If you want to attend, you can register here. Cost: $50 for non-members of the Chamber, $35 for members. For those of you who don’t want to spend the cash (like me), the city usually posts a copy of the speech to the city’s website immediately following the event. It’s free.

  1. has anyone bothered to ask the two leaders of our largest taxpayer supported organizations WHY there should be an entry fee to hear a speech on the state of the respective taxpayer supported organizations?

    if’n it’s to cover food, does it really cost fiddy bucks to eat dried up chickin in p-town?

    i’m just axing, yo.

  2. $ 50.00 for what?? AND AT HOLIDAY INN { Tax money going to re build PERE’}
    I asked a Petrolium engineer why our gasoline was higher priced than other states in PADD 2 ? His answer ; BECAUSE YOU ARE DUMB ENOUGH TO PAY IT !
    NUFF SAID!

  3. It should be a short speech “we are broke but we will spend money on hotels and edison” I dont feel that that should be worth $50.00 and the chamber should be able to make money on public officals. Will #150 post the speech also?

  4. Popijw, you are right. Gas last weekend $3.44 in Missouri, $3/47 in Iowa, and up at Peru only $3.45. As soon as you cross into Illinois from St. Louis, gas was $3.79. Paid $3.54 for gas last Tuesday night, by Wednesday morning it was $3.79 at Shell. 25 cent increase over night. I can’t understand why the people of Illinois don’t unite and fight the price of gas. Our gas station owners must be wealthy.

  5. cttsp5: Perhaps it is some of the home rule gas tax? Perhaps it is like cooking a frog in a warm pot of water? People complain but it is too ……….. to take action. People tolerate a lot …. that’s just the way thinks are in …….. fill-in the blank for anytown, U.S.A. Perhaps just another example of the Overton Window ….

    Nothing changes when nothing changes. The more it changes, the more it remains the same.
